Step 1: Upload and update files

In multidisciplinary projects, architects and engineers constantly share evolving designs. Without structure, files get lost, outdated drawings are used, and changes become hard to track. Dalux Box solves this with consistent metadata, version control, and separating working files from approved documents.

Example: A structural engineer uploads a revised foundation plan mid-design. Without versioning, other teams may not know which file is current.
Structured filing ensures each file includes key info like discipline, status, and drawing number, making files easy to find. Versioning keeps previous versions intact, so project history isn’t lost when updates are made.

As a result:

  • Everyone works from the same, current information
  • Design changes are traceable across disciplines
  • Earlier versions remain available for reference and can be compared
  • Construction teams only receive approved documentation

How to upload files

Among the different methods available in Dalux, here are two common ways to upload files depending on your workflow and project setup:

Upload files to Dalux Box

Navigate to the relevant folder in Files and upload your models, drawings, and documents by selecting them from your PC.

This is the standard method for drawings, specifications, IFC files, and submittals.

Uploading a file with the same name to the same folder automatically creates a new version. If the file name has changed, you can also manually create new versions of files you've uploaded before.

Use Plugins to upload designs

If you work in a modeling application, you can upload directly to Dalux without manual export. Plugins add a Dalux tab in your authoring tool, where you log in, select the project and building, and upload.

Plugins are available for various modeling software; find the list in the link below.

You can download all plugins from your profile menu in Dalux: click your name in the top right corner and go to Downloads.

Best practice for files

Always use consistent naming and metadata
Use a clear, agreed naming convention if established in your project, and always set discipline, status, and description on every file. This makes files filterable without manual searching and makes it easy for every team member to identify what a file contains without opening it.

Update files through versioning
Upload revised files under the same file name so Dalux Box creates a new version automatically, preserving history. Other disciplines can then follow design development.

Files and Published files
Once the files are approved, they will be published by the design manager to be ready for wider use. This will protect the construction team from acting on unvalidated information.

Think of file structure as a shared language between teams
A consistent file setup becomes a shared language across disciplines: everyone knows where to look, what is current, and what is still in progress.
