How to use Daily log

The daily log allows for daily documentation of manpower, equipment/materials used, weather restraints, or any other custom field needed.

Daily logs are usually filled out by the construction workers on the construction site and can be separated between the different trades on the project. One or more approver groups can then approve or reject the different logs.

This article explains how to fill in daily logs on Dalux Desktop and Mobile and how to approve and reject the logs. To learn more about setting up daily logs, you can read this article: How to set up Daily log.

How to use daily log

This section covers how you can create and fill out a daily log.

Mobile Desktop

Creating a daily log on Dalux Mobile

Users can create a daily log from the Home screen. Press 'Create new entry' in the daily logs section.

This will open a new daily log, and the different types can be filled out. You can also remove types from the daily log by pressing the icon.

When the daily log has been filled out, it can be sent by pressing the icon in the upper right corner.

A daily log can be duplicated by pressing-icon next to a previous daily log. This makes it quicker to fill out a daily log every day if there have not been a lot of changes from the previous day.

The status of all daily logs can be seen by pressing the daily log tab.

If a daily log is rejected, it needs to be resubmitted. Rejected daily logs will appear with a red icon. The reason for rejection will appear at the top in a highlighted box. The daily log can then be changed and resubmitted.

If a signature is required, use your finger to sign the daily log.
Use the top toolbar to cancel the log, clear your signature, or submit the log.

How to approve or reject a daily log

On the Dalux dashboard, a daily log tab is visible. Individual daily logs can be opened by clicking on them. Clicking 'Show all' will jump to the daily log dashboard.

As a daily log reviewer, all daily logs can be seen by going to:

Field Daily log Dashboard.

Submitted daily logs will show as orange in the calendar view. Clicking on the boxes will open the daily log.

A daily log can then be approved or rejected. The different filled-out fields can be seen, and the weather is logged at the bottom.

Note

When using two reviewers for daily logs, only the last reviewer can approve and close the daily log. A daily log requires approval from the first reviewer before the second reviewer can approve it. Once a daily log has been approved, it cannot be edited. You cannot reopen an approved daily log and reject it.

Tips and tricks

By selecting a date, you can get an overview of all daily logs on that date. You can then approve multiple daily logs at the same time.

To approve the daily log, click Approve and confirm in the pop-up window.

If a signature is required, use the mouse to sign the daily log and click 'Approve'. To erase the signature, click 'Clear' in the lower-left corner.

The same process is used for rejecting daily logs. Click 'Reject' and type in a reason for rejection. The daily log will highlight the reason for rejection.

How to print or export daily logs to Excel

Daily logs can be printed from the daily log Dashboard by clicking Print in the top menu.

The print function supports individual dates, date ranges, and whether to print all or specific types of work packages. Pictures and attachments can also be included in the print.

The default print setting includes all types, all work packages, weather, and attachments.

The data from the daily log types can be exported to Excel.

To do so, go to one of the daily log types in the side menu. Multiple entries can be selected, or the whole list can be exported by clicking Export.

The export is based on the columns in the list view, so these can be customized to suit your needs.
