Dalux Sync

Dalux Sync is used for synchronizing files between Box and your Windows computer.

Dalux Sync makes it easy to upload and download files in bulk, create folder structures, and back up your projects.

New files and their metadata can be uploaded directly from the desktop folder structure. If a project is using File naming templates, these are also shown during the Dalux Sync upload.

Technical information

Dalux Sync is available for projects with Box. Note that this guide shows the process on Windows 11. If using a previous version of Windows, it might appear differently.

How to set up Dalux Sync

To download Dalux Sync, log into any Dalux project on Dalux Desktop or in a browser of your choice.

How to use Dalux Sync

Download a project

After logging in with Dalux credentials, files can be downloaded from Dalux projects you have access to.

To do so:

Right-click 'Dalux' in the File Explorer 'Dalux Sync' Download new project.

A pop-up window will show all the projects you have access to and that can be downloaded. Click on the project that needs to be downloaded.

Next, select what you want to download. You can choose from the following:

  • File areas
  • Folders and subfolders
  • Version sets

Selecting the top folders automatically selects the subfolders.

When the desired folders have been selected, click 'Download project'.

When the download is completed, you get an overview of all the files that were synchronized.

Once downloaded, the files are available on your computer and can be used offline.

User permission

Dalux Sync follows the user permissions in the Dalux project.

Editing, adding, or deleting files with Dalux Sync is only possible if the user has the permissions to do so.

Contact the project administrators to address any insufficient permissions on the project.

Synchronize local files with a Dalux project

To synchronize local files:

Right-click the project folder in Dalux Sync 'Dalux Sync' Download.

Dalux always checks all project files to see if there are updates, regardless of the selected subfolder.

Upload files to Box

You can use Dalux Sync to upload new files or new versions directly to your Dalux project:

Right-click the project folder in Dalux Sync'Dalux Sync'Upload.

Dalux always checks all files in the project's folders to see if there are updates, regardless of the selected subfolder.

Note

If there is a file naming template set up for the folder in your Dalux project, this will be used to update existing files. If there is no file naming template set up, files will only be updated if the file name is the same.

Before uploading files, various metadata can be filled out. If a file naming template is set up, some metadata is filled out automatically. It can be filled out for multiple files by dragging the green box similarly to your spreadsheet program. Files that don't match the file naming template show a warning or error message, depending on whether the file naming template was set as 'required' or not.

If metadata are set as 'required', you get an error message when you upload your files and the missing metadata is highlighted.

Select the files that need to be uploaded and click 'Upload'

After the upload is complete, a confirmation window will show what files were uploaded and if there were any errors.

Create folders with Dalux Sync

It is not possible to rename folders or files via Dalux Sync. Renamed files or folders will be identified as a new addition, and a new file or folder will be created in Dalux Box. If doing so, the original folder or file will still be in the Dalux platform and will need to be deleted from Dalux.
