Introduction

Safety on a construction site relies on safety issues being reported, addressed, and fixed. As a safety manager, you can use safety features in Dalux to provide a consistent way for anyone on the construction site to report a safety observation. You can then turn the safety observations into a documented tasks with a clear resolutions.

The challenge

Safety issues surface from many directions, such as your own safety inspections, a worker's observation, or someone outside the project entirely. Different reporters might use different channels or formats.

Paper forms and inconsistent reporting habits make this worse. Paper forms and conversations about safety issues can be inconsistent, vague or missing the information you need to take action.

A safety observation about another crew's work is also harder to raise directly, since it puts the reporter's name in front of the crew it concerns. Without a shared system, you cannot see what happened after a safety observation was raised, whether it was assigned, or whether it was resolved.

How Dalux solves it

You and a project administrator set up safety categories, subcategories, and workflows for the project. Every report, regardless of the crew or channel, is filled out the same way: directly on a mobile device with the same required fields each time.

A safety observation is sent to you first, rather than directly to the relevant crew, and you decide how to handle it. You can turn it into a safety issue and route it to the responsible party, log it as good practice, or close it if it is not relevant. The contractor to whom an issue is routed does not see who raised the original observation; only you do.

Instead of typing in the location by hand, Dalux places every issue at a specific location, room, level, or zone. You can require a photo before marking an issue as resolved to provide proof of resolution rather than just a status change.

Categories, severity, and a workflow that assigns responsibility

The same safety categories apply across safety observations, safety inspections, and safety issues. Every report is filled out on the same template, regardless of what work package it comes from, so what reaches you is consistent instead of shaped by whoever happened to fill it out and how.

Not every safety observation automatically becomes a safety issue. Whether the observation comes from someone on the project or from a public QR code, it first goes to you. When you convert an observation into an issue, only the responsible party sees the content; they do not see who originally raised the observation.

Safety issues are sent to the responsible person via the workflow setup. The task will appear in the responsible group's inbox, and the status and changes will be tracked.

You do not need to check in on every safety issue individually. The dashboard shows the overall status of the project, including which user groups have open safety issues or overdue tasks. You can send a task reminder for all overdue issues, and it is logged on the task.

Safety issues can easily be created from safety inspections. For example, if a guardrail is missing or an edge is exposed during a safety inspection, a safety issue will be created. The safety issue will automatically use the same safety category and can be sent as a task.

No matter how a safety issue starts, it ends up in a consistent category, responsible party, and a clear record.
