This article explains how to set up and use Field-to-GIS. Field-to-GIS connects data from Field checklists to Geographic Information System (GIS) objects in your project.
Synchronizing checklist data with GIS properties streamlines the process of adding data to your GIS objects. With Field-to-GIS, you can inspect objects on site and update your GIS data in real time.
How to set up template data fields
You first need to set up template data fields to synchronize them with GIS data. This option is available for template data fields in checklist templates. The fields must be custom data fields. Default data fields cannot be used.

User rights
Setting up template data fields to synchronize with GIS data needs to be done by a project administrator or a Field administrator.
Open the template and create a new template data field, or edit an existing one. When editing the template data field, toggle on 'Save value to GIS object'.
The name of the template data field becomes the name of the GIS property, and the value becomes the attribute value. A icon marks data fields that are synced to GIS objects.
If you create multiple registrations with synced template data fields on the same GIS object, the system adds all values to the element individually. It does not overwrite or update existing values.
How to create registrations to sync template data fields to GIS data
As an end user, you can use checklists just as usual. Field-to-GIS works automatically when you create checklists for GIS objects. The following steps show how to create checklists so the data syncs to the GIS objects.
-
Display GIS data
In the map view, display the GIS data for which you want to create checklists. You can do this on both desktop and mobile. -
Create checklists on GIS object
Create checklists on a GIS object by clicking on or near it. When you place the location, make sure the GIS object you select appears in the list. -
Synchronize checklist data to GIS data
The system automatically adds values from template data fields that were set up for synchronizing with GIS data as new GIS properties. No additional action is required.
How to use Field-to-GIS data
As with any other GIS property, you can see the values in the property list when you select the GIS element in Locations.
A icon marks these values. Select the icon to open the checklist the value came from. This makes it easy to trace the data and get contextual info, such as photos or who created the registration.
You can also use these values to filter and colorize your data, giving you an easy overview of your captured GIS data.
