In this article, we will go over the equipment needed to perform a SiteWalk, along with our suggested setup to help you achieve the best results and reliability.
Supported cameras
Before you can start with SiteWalk, you will need the right equipment.
SiteWalk can only be used with a supported camera, as listed below:
- Insta360 X5 - Recommended by Dalux, (requires a SD card, e.g. a MicroSD V30)
- Insta360 X4* - (Requires a SD card, e.g. a MicroSD V30)
- Ricoh Theta Z1
*Please note the Insta 360 X4 Air is not supported.
Technical information
Insert the SD card before recording a SiteWalk on cameras that need one.
Ensure the camera's Wi-Fi is turned on and set to Always On.
Other equipment
Safety helmet: The construction helmet should fulfill your local security guidelines.
Camera Mount: A 1/4" camera mount that lets you install the camera on your helmet, examples include:
- GoPro camera mount (adapter for 1/4" required)
- Camera mount adapter
Mobile device: The device should support the Dalux mobile app on iOS or Android.
Power bank/extra batteries (optional): We recommend carrying either a power bank or extra rechargeable batteries for your camera model.
We recommend avoiding lens guards with Insta360 cameras to prevent glare and distortion. If you use one, select the 'Lens Guard' option in camera settings and ensure it is installed properly to avoid blocking the lens.
Note
When mounting the camera, you should mount it as shown below. This will give a better result and reduce the chances of hitting the camera on doorframes or overhangs.
Lighting recommendations
Proper lighting is important for capturing high-quality 360 images, which helps ensure your documentation is clear and accurate. For low light environments, we have the following recommendations to help you get the best results.
Option 1: Bushman HALO 360 LIGHT
Link: Bushman HALO 360 LIGHT – Bushman Panoramic
Mount this light beneath the camera, use a selfie stick rather than a helmet mount.
Advantages
- Lightweight
- Ideal for recording in small to medium-sized rooms
Disadvantages
- Not suitable for very large areas such as warehouses or industrial plants
- Requires one hand for the selfie stick
Note
Do not use the Halo Bracket Bundle. It will be visible in the final image and degrade image quality: Bushman HALO BRACKET BUNDLE – Bushman Panoramic
Option 2: AREA 10 CONNECT
Link: 360° work light with 10,000 lumen
This setup is more bulky but provides stronger illumination for SiteWalks.
Advantages
- Provides stronger illumination
- Well-suited for larger spaces
Disadvantages
- Requires one hand and is heavy
- Full power is very bright in small rooms
