GPS Connector

In this article, we will explain how to set up and use GPS Connector in InfraField Pro.

The GPS Connector lets you create an NTRIP network, so on-site teams can connect to an external antenna and get accurate GPS coordinates for registrations when using the Dalux app.

How to set up GPS Connector

User rights

Activation and setup for GPS Connector need to be done by a project administrator.

GPS Connector is available in InfraField Pro projects only.

Required equipment

Before you can start with GPS Connector, you will need the right equipment.

Currently supported:

Activate GPS Connector

To activate GPS Connector, go to Settings Locations 'GPS antenna connection':

When you activate this feature, you will need to agree to the terms and conditions.

The Dalux account email of the person who activates the feature will be linked to the default NTRIP network, which is set up automatically.

When activating and setting up the feature you can select the default mount point. You can chose either:

  • Always use nearest mount point - The antenna will automatically try to connect to the closest point
  • Choose mount point on site - Users will have to select a specific point from a list in the mobile app

If you pick option two, users must manually select the mount point. Pick which options best fits your project. This setting can be changed later if needed.

How to set up NTRIP networks

When you active GPS Connector a RTK2go network is automatically set up for you. You can use the network or create you own if you have one.

Technical information

The default network provided upon activation is mainly for testing or relative measurements, as the accuracy of all mount points is not guaranteed without on-site testing.

We strongly recommend using a custom NTRIP network to ensure accuracy and coordinates meet your project's requirements.

To set up a custom NTRIP network go to:

 Settings Locations 'NTRIP networks' Add.

When adding a NTRIP network you must fill out the following data:

  • Name - Name of the network shown to the user selecting the network on mobile
  • Server URL - The URL to your network
  • Port - The port to your network
  • Login - The email account associated with the network
  • Mount point - Select whether mount point is nearest or selected on site
  • Options - Set whether the network should be selected by default

Technical information

When a user selects a custom network on their mobile device for the first time, they will be asked to log in using the email and password for the network.

How to use GPS Connector on mobile

Once the GPS Connector is activated, you can connect to a supported antenna through the Dalux app.

Please follow the manufacturer's instructions to turn on the antenna and connect it to your mobile device.

In the Dalux app, go to the More menu, then select GPS antennas.

If your device is supported and can connect to your phone, it will show up in the list, and you can select it to connect.

Once an antenna is connected, you can choose a network. The default network will connect automatically.

When on the map view your precise GPS coordinates will be shown, along with the current vertical and horizontal accuracy. You can change the mount point and set the pole elevation as well.

The pole elevation should equal the survey pole height, as the antenna offset is already included.

Please note that any inaccuracy shown is due to antenna testing being done indoors.

If you create a new registration such as a task or checklist, the GPS data is added to registrations location.
