How to plan extent in Test plans and Inspection plans

Planning the extent for test plans and inspection plans allows you to define how often and in what locations a check needs to be performed.

This way, you can keep track of the progress of finished work and how many outstanding checks there are in your project.

If you want to use zones, 3D object groups, or 2D object groups, we highly recommend setting them up before the extent for each inspection point:

  • Zones: Zones allow you to structure your checks into manageable areas. If you want to use 3D or 2D object groups, setting up zones is required.
  • 3D object groups: Set up 3D object groups to plan checks for a number of 3D elements.
  • 2D object groups: Use 2D object groups if you want to perform checks for a number of elements, but you do not have a 3D model. 2D object groups can also be used to plan checks at locations if they are not tied to specific objects.

Setting up the extent for test plans and inspection plans

The extent can be planned by clicking Plan extent.

The extent can be set to the following:

  • No extent (no specific number of tests planned)
  • Quantity (number of total tests planned, but not tied to a specific location)
  • Zones (number of tests planned in certain locations)

Extent is optional and set to "No extent" by default.

If you select 'Zones', click on Add to define a quantity of checks for each zone.

To set the extent for multiple zones, switch to Extent overview. This view simplifies planning the extent of your test plans or inspection plans.

In the new window, you will see your extent overview.

  • At the top of the window, the inspection points are shown
  • On the left, you will see your zones and zone layers
  • The middle part of the window contains the matrix

When you click in the matrix, a panel on the right will open. Here you can set the amount and type of extents.

How to set up extent for zones without a location

You can use 'Count' to plan a specific number of checks per zone that are not tied to a 3D or 2D object.

To set a count, click in the matrix cell corresponding to the inspection point and the zone. In the menu on the right, click 'Count' and type in how many tests should be performed.

If you intend to use the same count across all or multiple zones, you can drag-and-drop across multiple zones and inspection points.

You can also drag-and-drop a 'No extent' cell to quickly reset all planned extents.

The total planned registrations are automatically updated and can be seen at the top.

If needed, you can click on the individual cells in the matrix and change the extent type or amount in the menu on the right.

When done, remember to click 'Save'.

How to use 2D or 3D object groups for extent

If you have created 2D or 3D object groups, these can be used to automatically set the count and place the tests in the correct location.

You can read more about 2D or 3D object zones in this article: How to create 2D / 3D object groups.

Grouping well-defined 2D or 3D objects is useful for planning, especially if you need to check each object. For example, if you need to check each door in a building and each door is part of a 2D or 3D object group, the total number is automatically updated in the extent overview.

Technical information

Extents using 2D or 3D objects are dynamically updated. When adding or removing objects from these groups, the extent will automatically update as well.

Ensure that the relevant object groups are available in the zones where checks should be performed. If there are no objects available in a zone, its extent will stay at 0.

To set the extent from 2D or 3D object groups, click on a cell in the matrix. Then, in the side menu, click either '2D objects' or '3D objects'. Search or select which group you want to use.

In the example above, the inspection of windows is planned using 3D objects.

You can quickly drag and drop across multiple zones to set the extent as 2D or 3D objects for the zones.

When done, remember to click 'Save'.

Technical information for InfraField projects

Zones and planned inspections for DaluxIcon_structures.pngStructures will not be visible on the DaluxIcon_map.pngMap. Users will need to open the relevant level of the structure to perform checks.

Partial extent using objects and zones

When you use extent in zones with 2D or 3D object groups, you can set a partial extent. Partial extent allows you to specify a percentage of tests to be performed.

For example, if the specifications require that 50% of all doors and windows on each floor in the building should be tested, this can be set up as a partial extent.

As the 3D objects in the zone are tested, the extent is automatically updated. The checks are complete when the partial extent is satisfied. Checks can still be performed to go beyond the partial extent.
