AI Assistant

This article explains how to use the AI Assistant to summarize and search in documents in Box Pro.

Note

Currently, the AI Assistant is designed to help you understand one document at a time. It does not search across folders, projects, or multiple documents, and it does not infer information beyond what is explicitly stated in the document.

Project data is processed within Dalux’s controlled cloud environment and is not used to train public AI models. Access follows existing Dalux permissions.

Where to find the Dalux AI Assistant

The AI Assistant is available for text-based documents uploaded to Box. It can be used across file areas, and for files added to other Box features such a review packages.

You can start using the AI Assistant by opening a document and clicking AI Assistant

Technical information

The AI Assistant is currently available for PDF and .docx text files. New files and versions may take a moment to process before AI Assistant can be used properly.

Documents over 100 pages are currently not supported.

Quick actions

The AI Assistant provides two quick actions for a file overview:

  • Summarize this file: Summarizes the file's content in bullet points, focusing on the key and actionable information.
  • Show key takeaways in a table: Summarizes key information in a table, organized by chapters or sections of the document.

Custom queries and citations

If you are looking for more specific answers about the document, use the chat function to ask the AI Assistant.

The AI Assistant will respond to your questions using the information in the document. If it cannot find relevant information, it will let you know. It will respond in the language of the query, regardless of the document language.

The AI Assistant does not access information from other projects, documents, or other versions of the file.

If you engage with the AI Assistant on an older version of a file, it will answer solely based on the information in that specific version.

For PDF documents, the answer includes a citation. Clicking it will take you to the relevant section in the document, highlighting where the AI Assistant sourced the information. Source references are provided so you can verify answers directly in the document and avoid relying on unchecked AI summaries.

Citations are currently not available for .docx files.

Note

The AI Assistant supports understanding and navigation of documents. It does not replace professional judgment. Always verify important information using the cited source text.

Tips for writing a good prompt

  • Phrase your query in the form of a question
    • "What performance levels are relevant?" instead of "Performance levels"
  • Be specific about the information you are looking for
    • "What performance levels are relevant in regards to soundproofing?"
  • If possible, add context
    • "What performance levels are relevant in regards to soundproofing if I'm the main contractor?"
  • Keep your question clear and simple
  • Avoid multiple questions per prompt

Conversation history

At the top of the feature, you can start a new chat by clicking the icon. This will clear your previous conversation with the assistant. In the menu, you find your Conversation history.

The conversation history lets you revisit previous queries and answers by the AI Assistant over all versions of this file.

Delete a conversation from the history by hovering over it and clicking Delete.
