How to upload drawings

User rights

Only project administrators or users with editing permissions for Locations can create buildings and upload drawings. Learn more about user groups in this article: How to set up User groups.

Before using drawings in Locations and Field, you must add them to a building. Start by going to:

Settings Locations Buildings Add.

Once the building is created, you can start uploading your drawings from your computer.

Click Upload and locate your drawings.

In the upload window, you can view the files to be uploaded and add disciplines, content descriptions, or drawing numbers for hyperlinks.

The title sets the drawing name displayed to users in Locations and Field, but does not alter the file name. This allows you to simplify the displayed name, making it easier for people to locate the correct drawings on the construction site.

These settings can be modified later.

You can read more about disciplines in this article: Disciplines and subdisciplines

You can read more about hyperlinks in this article: Hyperlinks on PDF drawings

Note

When the drawings are processed, they will be available in Locations for all users of the project.

We recommend only uploading drawings to a building if they are intended to be used for Field registrations.

Your added drawings are now ready to be used in Locations and Field.

How to add levels

All drawings will be uploaded without levels. If your buildings have multiple levels, we recommend adding levels in Dalux to help organize your drawings.

To add a level, click Add LevelEnter a name'Create'

The levels should reflect the levels in your building. Once the levels have been created you need to map the drawings.

To map drawings, drag and drop a drawing to a level.

Note

When adding levels, all unmapped drawings will appear in a folder named "Without level" in Locations. You can then:

  • Leave the drawings as unmapped drawings
  • Hover over the unmapped drawing, then clickMap to 3D No mapping

Both methods will look the same in Locations

When the drawings have been added to levels and disciplines the result will look something like this in Locations.

How to update drawings

You can update your drawings by uploading a new version to the building.

Technical information

As long as the file name is the same, Dalux will automatically upload the new drawing as a new version. The newest version will always be shown in Locations.

If you upload a file with a different file name, it will be treated as a new drawing. See below how to change file names: Rename drawings or change metadata

Start by going to:

Settings Locations Buildings Select your building Edit

You can then add the update drawing by going to:

Add From your computer

The upload window will show, that a new version of an existing drawing is being uploaded. Mapping to levels and disciplines will stay the same. Registrations made on the drawing will also stay on the drawing.

Technical information

Ensure the updated drawing is exported with the same settings as the original. For example, if the drawing is rotated or shifts to a different area, registrations in Field will not move with it.

Rename drawings or change metadata

To change the file name, you need to manually upload a new version directly to the file.

To open a drawing either double-click on it, or hover over a drawing, then clickEdit

The drawing will open in a new window. From here you can also download or print the drawing.

Note

If you want to change the displayed name in Locations and Field, update the Title of the drawing.

Metadata can be changed in the menu on the right (Click Show metadata to show the menu).

In the More menu you can use Upload new version to upload a new version with a different file name. The upload process is the same. Mapping to levels and disciplines will stay the same. Registrations made on the drawing will also stay on the drawing.
