As an architect or engineer, it is your responsibility to submit designs that align with the models created by other members of the design team and meet the overall level of quality. With Dalux, you no longer have to wait for feedback from the BIM coordinator. Instead, you can validate your model yourself and make changes immediately.
Note
This case explains how you can validate your model with the ruleset provided by a BIM coordinator. If you want to set up your own rules, consider reading the article for BIM coordinators first: Model validation for BIM coordinators.
If you work with Autodesk Revit, we highly recommend using the Dalux Plugin for Revit. Otherwise, use the Dalux Desktop App to validate your uploaded model directly in the platform for quick feedback.
Model validation in Autodesk Revit
You can use the Dalux Plugin for Revit to validate your model directly in Revit without leaving the software.
To do this, download the plugin and install it by following these instructions.
While your model is open in Revit, access the Model validation feature from the toolbar and choose the building to which your model is associated.
Clashes and Clearances
Now choose either a specific set of checks for your discipline, or click on 'Run checks' to execute all clash and clearance checks that were set up by the BIM coordinator of your project.
Clicking on a clash or clearance lets you investigate them in more detail. Click on 'Open in Revit' to zoom in on it in your currently open model. This way, you can easily make changes if necessary.
In this example, we are working in the MEP model of a project and have linked the structural model to it.
Going through the clashes allows us to decide for each issue if we want to make changes to our model, ignore it as it is not relevant, or send a comment to the structural designer or design manager.
These actions are explained here in more detail: How to perform checks in Model validation
Property checks
Select a property check to see if your model fulfills all the requirements of the EIR (Exchange information requirements). Click on the rules of your discipline to automatically check if the required properties exist and if they match the expected values of the BEP.
In the example below, the MEP engineer is required to add information about the system to every duct. All orange-colored elements do not fulfill this requirement due to:
- The information is missing. They can add the properties before submitting the model.
- The elements are not categorized correctly. They can address this before submitting the model.
- The requirement is only relevant at a later stage. They can submit their model anyway.
Model validation in Dalux
To validate your model in Dalux, upload it to Dalux Box, and go to
Design
Model validation
to get immediate feedback on your design.
The process is similar to the process in Revit, but you can not open issues directly in Revit from here.
This article explains how to perform checks on your model in more detail: How to perform checks in Model validation.
To see how the requirements are set up as a BIM coordinator, you can read more here: Model validation for BIM coordinators.
